Our 1st Camping Trip

We went with Marlon's cousin, his wife, their 3 kids. (his wife's sister & her daughter also joined us). We had such a great time. We arrived around 12 on Friday & headed to the beach before check-in at 2pm. It was super windy so we just hung around the vehicles to break the wind. We headed to the campgrounds to check in at 2pm. We were glad to have gotten two sites together...since we had planned on having all the meals together & spending the time together. We set up camp & had some sandwiches. It was a very nice day. That evening we started the campfires and ate some sausages & chili (it was so yummy & perfect on a cold night). The kids fell asleep & we took them to our tent. Marlon & I stayed up with his cousin & his wife. I headed to bed around 12:30am & then around 2am it started to rain...by 4:45 our tent was soaked & we were wet as well (old tent, no rain guard)...so we grabbed the kids & got in the back of the SUV. The next morning we all headed out to breakfast since it was so wet still & we were all cold. We had planned to get back to the site & head home. But, to our surprise the sun was up & the tent was almost dry. So, we cleaned everything out of it and ran to the store to buy a tarp. It sprinkled a bit during the day, but for the most part the rain stayed off. We enjoyed tacos & quesadillas for lunch. That late afternoon we started on a walk with the kids...about 5min into the walk it started to sprinkle again to a slow rain...so we headed back to the campsite to sit under the awning. By dinner time, Marlon & I were making chicken Kabobs with baked potatoes & salad in the sprinkling rain. He did a great job cooking over the firepit & we enjoyed dinner without much rain. We made smore's & the kids headed to bed again, as we hoped our tent would hold up if it rained again. By 11:30pm it was raining again so we headed to bed....thank goodness the tarp held up & we stayed dry. The next morning, Sunday, we had a tasty breakfast of eggs, sausage, & pancakes before we packed up and headed home at noon.
Overall we had a great time. The kids did awesome! & even with allergies to the weeds & grass, the crazy weather, & my itchy throat due to breathing the smoke around the firepit...we had a wonderful 1st camping trip. Looking forward to doing it again in the future...
